Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign: Know the rules and right way to hoist Tricolour

Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign: Before the 75th year of India’s independence, Prime Minister Modi has started the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign under the Amrit festival of independence. This campaign started from today and will continue till Monday 15th August. Under this campaign, PM Modi has urged people to hoist the tricolor at their homes to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. In such a situation, it is also important to know the rules for hoisting the national flag.

According to the Flag Code of India, the tricolor can be flown at all places on all occasions without disrespecting the dignity and honor of the tricolor. The code states that the flag can be of any shape, but the ratio of its length to height should be 3:2 in a rectangular shape. According to the Flag Code of India, earlier the national flag should be hoisted only after sunset, but this rule has now been repealed. The tricolor can now be displayed at any person’s home in the country at any time of the day.

Keep these things in mind before hoisting the tricolor

The New Testament states that the tricolor can be flown day and night. However, it is necessary for the person hoisting the national flag to ensure that the flag is not flown upside down that is the saffron side of the flag should remain up. Also the flag you are hoisting should not display the damaged tricolor nor should it touch the ground or water. The national flag should not be damaged in any way.

If the national flag is damaged, it should be disposed of in such a way that its dignity is not hurt. The Flag Code of India suggests that it should be disposed completely privately by burning and if it is made of paper ensure that it is not left on the ground. If damaged, it should be disposed of with complete secrecy keeping in mind the dignity of the tricolor.

Tricolor can be hoisted on all occasions

According to the Flag Code of India, “a member of the public, private organisation, or educational institute is allowed to hoist the National Flag on all days and occasions, ceremonial or otherwise, consistent with the dignity and honour of the flag.”

Flag Code envisions the provisions in which you cannot use the flag and says that the Tricolour cannot be used for commercial purposes.

According to Article 51A (a) of Indian constitution, it shall be the duty of every citizen of India to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem.

As per flag code the flag cannot be dipped in salute to any person or thing or as a festoon, or for any kind of decoration purposes

The Constituent Assembly held on 22nd July 1947 adopted the present flag as the National Flag of India.

A citizen, a private organization or an educational institution can hoist the national flag on all days and occasions. There is no restriction on the timing of flag display. The government has amended the Flag Code of India so that the tricolor can be displayed day and night in the open and in different houses or buildings. Earlier Indians were allowed to fly their national flag only on certain occasions, but this rule changed after a decade-long legal battle by industrialist Naveen Jindal.

The landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of India on 23 January 2004 declared that the fundamental right to fly the National Flag freely with dignity and respect within the meaning of Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India have the right. The Flag Code of India was first amended in December last year. In which, apart from cotton, wool, silk and khadi, polyester was allowed to be used for making hand-spun, woven and machine-made flags.
