An official stated,

“The Joint Exercise, for the first time, simulated a validation exercise for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) terror response mission. During the mock validation exercise, a terrorist organisation armed with chemical agents threatened to attack a convention hall during an international summit. The objective of the joint exercise by NSG and US (SOF) teams was to rapidly neutralise the terrorists, rescue the hostages safely and deactivate the chemical weapons being carried by the terrorists,”.

Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) serious threat to global peace and security

Several anti-terror exercises were carried out as part of Operation TARKASH, which was carried out in Chennai. There was also a practise to guard against chemical and biological terrorist attacks. In the simulation drills, small teams were successfully sent to the target area by IAF helicopters, and large auditorium interventions, hostage rescues, and chemical agent weapon neutralisations were also performed.

In the past, several governments and terrorist groups have used CBRN, which are classified as weapons of mass de struction. More than 100 people died in Syria in 2017 as a result of the most recent CBRN incident, which included a sarin gas strike.

According to the UN, there is a "serious threat" to global peace and security if non-state actors, such terrorists and those who support them, are able to access and use WMD or CBRN.
