Prior to the commencement of the cricket match, PM Modi and his Australian colleague Anthony Albanese arrived at the Narendra Modi stadium and drove around the enormous sports complex in a golf car. The thousands of people who had already taken their places in the largest cricket stadium in the world cheered the two PMs as they circled the playing field in a golf car.

Opposition leader calls out Modi for self-promotion at cricket stadium

“Doing a lap of honour in a stadium you named after yourself in your own lifetime – height of self-obsession,” said Congress General Secretary in-charge, Communications, Jairam Ramesh in a tweet. Before the game, PMs Modi and Albanese presented the respective team captains, Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith, with their respective Test caps.
