India is set for record mustard production in 2022-23

A high record production of mustard is expected in the country this year. Solvent Extractors Association ie SEA has told in an estimate that 115.25 lakh tonnes of mustard can be produced in the country this year. SEA had estimated 110 lakh tonnes of mustard production in the year 2021-22.

This year, bumper cultivation of mustard has taken place in many states. The names of Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh are prominent in these states. Due to the increase in the rate of mustard oil in the last year and in the current year, farmers have cultivated mustard on a large scale. This is the reason why a record production of mustard is being predicted this year.

Releasing the production estimate, SEA said that in the last year, the farmers got very good prices for mustard, which encouraged the bumper sowing of mustard in the current season. Due to this, record production of oilseeds is being expected in the country. One of the major reasons for the increase in production is that the weather is good this year in the mustard producing states and barring a few unseasonal rains, the weather has helped.

Major portion of production is coming from Rajasthan

Earlier this month, SEA had conducted a countrywide crop survey, in which the matter of bumper production of mustard has come to the fore. In the total estimated production of 115.25 lakh tonnes, the largest quantity seems to be coming from Rajasthan.

According to estimates, 44.95 lakh tonnes of mustard can be produced in Rajasthan this year. After this, Madhya Pradesh is in second place from where 18.03 lakh tonnes production can be found.

After this, there is a possibility of production of 16.69 lakh tonnes of mustard in Uttar Pradesh and 11.47 lakh tonnes of mustard in Haryana.

In this, maximum cultivation is estimated in Rajasthan, where the area is 37.43 lakh hectares. There is an estimate of 14 lakh hectares in Uttar Pradesh and 13.23 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh. To increase the production of oilseeds in the country, the oilseeds project is also being run by the government. In this there is a project ‘Model Mustard Farm Project’ whose vision is to reach 200 lakh tonnes of mustard production in the country by 2025-26.
