Turkey calls India a “dost”

Turkish Ambassador to India Firat Sunel thanked New Delhi and stated, “a friend in need is friend indeed”.

“Dost” is a common word in Turkish and Hindi… We have a Turkish proverb: “Dost kara gunde belli olur” (a friend in need is a friend indeed). Thank you very much India,”

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to provide Turkey with all necessary aid on Day 1, India made the decision to dispatch search and rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force, medical teams, and relief supplies to the nation right away.

Search teams and rescue supplies have started to arrive by plane, and dozens of countries, including the United States, China, and the Gulf States, have promised their support.

Winter storms have made several roads, some of which were already damaged by the earthquake, nearly impassable, adding to the agony and causing kilometre-long traffic jams in some areas.

One of the seismically active regions on the planet is at the Turkish-Syrian border.

Turkey hadn’t experienced an earthquake of this size since 33,000 people died in the eastern region of Erzincan in 1939.
