A rumor is running on social media including WhatsApp that claims ATMs will be closed for next 72 hours. As per government, the claim is not true. ATMs will continue to run as normal. People should avoid sharing these types of messages and must verify amid amplified India-Pakistan tensions
False claims about ATMs closure can spread panic among people in India. If ATMs are closed, people will not be able to withdraw their money for daily use which will spread panic especially in areas where digital payments are hardly used. It may lead to long queues at banks and interrupt the normal routine of people. Hence, these claims must be verified with authorised persons and organisations. Bank is the best place to be contacted for such claims.
As per reports, Pakistan is flooding the digital platforms to control the narrative war. Pakistan has been failed in all of his attempts in attacking India as Indian forces successfully responded to all the attacks by drones and missiles. Hence, Pakistan is trying to spread fear and terror indirectly by these methods.
India's Press Information Bureau (PIB) has demystified these claims being spread by Pakistan-based handles. More than eight videos and posts of these types’ claims were checked by the PIB between May 8 and May 9. One such claim is a drone attack in Punjab's Jalandhar, which was found to show a farm fire. The false claims included an old video of the 2020 Beirut explosion that some users claimed was Pakistan airstrikes. Thus, it is clear that all the claims which say that ATMs will be closed for next few days are false and unverified.
The claims of closure of ATMs for next 72 hours are false. The fact is checked and verified and claims are found baseless. ATMs will run without any interruption as per concerned authorities.
