Indian Army To Get Its Own Satellite, here’s details

In a bid to boost the communication capability of the Indian Army, the Defense Ministry on Wednesday signed a ₹3,000 crore contract with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), for an advanced communication satellite, GSAT. Officials told that 7B is to fulfill a long-standing need for the army.

Will no longer have to live on GSAT-7A

A dedicated satellite for the military is a long-standing requirement and will enhance the network-centric warfare capabilities of the military, making them more secure and jam-proof. The military was till now dependent on the GSAT-TA satellite of the Air Force.

Many parts of the satellite will be made in India

At the same time, the Ministry of Defense said that many parts and sub-assemblies and systems of the satellite will be obtained from indigenous manufacturers, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups. The ministry also signed two other contracts worth about Rs 2,400 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to bolster the air defense capabilities of the armed forces.

Happened on 2 other contracts as well

The first of these, worth ₹1,982 crore, is to implement Project Akashir, an automated air defense control and reporting system that will allow army air defense units to operate in an integrated manner. Defense Ministry said that AkashTir will enable low-level airspace surveillance over Indian Army’s battle areas and effectively control ground-based air defense weapon systems.
