J&K News: Large crowds flocked to Lal Chowk in Srinagar to greet the New Year, marking the first time in recent years that Jammu and Kashmir has celebrated New Year’s Day there. A musical event was arranged by the Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir, at Ghanta Ghar, which is located near the clock tower in Srinagar.
Hundreds Gather for New Year Celebrations
To celebrate the New Year, hundreds of people gathered at the clock tower. As the clock reached midnight, they danced to music in a lively and festive atmosphere at the famous “Ghanta Ghar.” Both locals and visitors to the Kashmir Valley attended the event and showed great excitement for the celebrations taking place at Srinagar‘s well-known clock tower.
Mohammad Yasin’s Joyful Revelation
“I have come here to witness the celebration of the New Year. We have never seen this kind of celebration before. But this time we saw this and are here to see the celebration. We have never seen this kind of celebration at Lal Chowk. I am very happy, delighted and excited,” Mohammad Yasin told ANI. Taranum, a different local who was present for the New Year’s festivities, reported that the Tourism Department is hosting a musical event as part of the festivities.
Lal Chowk’s Maiden Celebration
“Every year, these kinds of events are being held in Jammu and Kashmir but at Lal Chowk this is happening for the very first time. As the Centre says, ‘Kashmir should be peaceful, and they want it to be peaceful.’ But it also depends on the people of the valley how they take it, how they take this event. Like you are seeing, Lal Chowk is being decorated like a bride,” she said. It also surprised the tourists visiting the Kashmir Valley that celebrations were going on near Srinagar’s Clock Tower. Athar Aamir Khan, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Ltd. and Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, called the event something the city had never seen before.
Srinagar Square Alight with Celebration
“This is Srinagar Square, Lal Chowk right now! A city life never seen before. The celebration, the vibrancy like never before!” Athar Aamir Khan said in a post on X. “This is probably the biggest alibi to the transformation that Srinagar city has witnessed with the implementation of Srinagar Smart City (SMC) projects! Immensely proud of my Srinagar Smart City and SMC team for making this happen! Happy New Year!,” the municipal commissioner added.
Lal Chowk’s New Year’s Eve Extravaganza
Prior to the arrival of 2024, revellers were observed singing and dancing at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on New Year’s Eve. The Gulmarg town in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir hosted a New Year’s Eve celebration complete with dance performances and laser shows. As this was going on, other American cities rang in the new year with opulent festivities.
