Justice NV Ramana takes oath as 48th Chief Justice of India

Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana is now the new Chief Justice of India after SA Bobde.

Ramana has sworn in as the 48th Chief Justice of India and administered the oath of the office in the presence of the President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

Justice Bobde had earlier recommended Ramana as his successor in keeping with convention and seniority norms.

The presidnet subsquently confirmed Justice Ramana’s appointment as the new Chief Justice of India on April 6.

Ramana was born on August 27, 1957, in Ponnavaram village of Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district and enrolled as an advocate on February 10 1983.

He was further elevated as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on September 2, 2013 and was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2014.

He will demit the office of Supreme Court on August 26, 2022.
