The selection process involved extensive deliberations, with senior party leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda reviewing potential candidates before finalizing the list. However, some candidates faced controversies, such as Bhojpuri musician Pawan Singh who withdrew his nomination from Asansol, only to later announce his decision to contest the polls, and BJP leader Upendra Rawat who withdrew from Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki constituency due to a viral objectionable video purportedly featuring him.
