Lok Sabha Election 2024: With significant changes in several states, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its initial list of candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election on Saturday, replacing 33 incumbent MPs with fresh faces.
95 Names on BJP’s Lok Sabha Lineup
There are 95 names on the initial list of the saffron party’s Lok Sabha lineup, which includes two former chief ministers from West Bengal and Assam, as well as 34 central ministers from Chattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Tripura.
Out of the six incumbent Members of Parliament, the party has filed five fresh candidates in Assam. Parimal Suklabaidhya, a BJP candidate, took Rajdeep Roy MP’s seat in the Silchar constituency. Amar Singh Tisso has been appointed to the Autonomous District (ST) seat held by MP Horen Singh Bey.
Bijuli Kalita Medhi vying for Lok Sabha Seat
Bijuli Kalita Medhi will run for the Gauhati Lok Sabha seat held by Queen Oja MP, while Ranjit Dutta will represent Tezpur, home of Pallab Lochan Das, the current MP. In Dibrugarh, MP Rameswar Teli has been replaced by Union Minister Sarbanand Sonowal.
Chhattisgarh’s Political Infusion
The party introduced four fresh faces in Chattisgarh. Sunil Kumar Soni, the sitting BJP leader, lost his seat in Raipur to senior politician Brijmohan Agrawal. Kamlesh Jangde, the current MP Guharam Ajgalley’s replacement, will run from the Janjgir Champa (SC) constituency. The party has dropped MP Chunni Lal Sahu from the Mahasamund seat, and Roop Kumari Choudhary is the new candidate. Bhojraj Nag took Mohan Mandavi’s post in Kanker (ST).
Delhi BJP’s Reshuffling Act
Four of the Delhi BJP’s five nominated candidates took the place of current MPs. Praveen Khandelwal has been elected to the Lok Sabha from Chandani Chowk, replacing former Union Minister Harsh Vardhan. Kamaljeet Sehrawat has taken over for two-term MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma in the West Delhi seat. The contender for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat is Bansuri Swaraj, the late BJP politician Sushma Swaraj’s daughter. Meenakshi Lekhi, the current MP and Union Minister, did not make the list.
In Parliament, Ramesh Biduri made inflammatory statements about BSP MP Danish Ali. As a result, the BJP removed Biduri from South Delhi and appointed Ramvir Singh Bidhuri in his place.
Gujarat’s Electoral Shake-Up
When they announced candidates for 15 Lok Sabha seats, the BJP in Gujarat removed five of the current MPs. Instead of Prabhatbhai Savabhai Patel, the current Member of Parliament, Rekhaben Hiteshbhai Choudhary would run from the Banaskantha Lok Sabha constituency. Dineshbhai Kidarbhai Makwana has taken over as the new MP in Ahmedabad West (SC), replacing three-term MP Kirit Solanki.
The BJP replaced incumbent Member of Parliament Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya as its candidate in Rajkot with Union Minister Parshottam Rupala. The party’s MP, Rameshbhai Lavjibhai Dhaduk, is running for the Porbandar seat, which Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is running for. After Ratansinh Magansinh Rathod, the current MP, was dropped, Rajpalsingh Mahendrasinh Jadhav will contest from the Panchmahal seat.
Jharkhand’s Unpredictable Turn
Manish Jaiswal, a BJP candidate from Hazaribagh, has replaced Jayant Sinha, a former union minister and the son of Yashwant Sinha, as the candidate for Jharkhand. Sinha announced his decision to withdraw from the Lok Sabha elections one day prior to the BJP’s list publication. In Lohardaga (ST), three-time MP Sudarshan Bhagat was succeeded by Samir Oraon.
Madhya Pradesh’s Political Facelift
There are seven new faces on the BJP’s Madhya Pradesh list. In lieu of the party’s current MP, Vivek Narayan Shejwalker, Bharat Singh Kushwaha will run for the Gwalior Lok Sabha seat.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, a Union Minister, has succeeded Krishnapal Singh Yadav, the sitting Member of Parliament from Guna. Rajbahadur Singh, the incumbent in the Sagar Lok Sabha constituency, has been replaced by Lata Wankhede. Virendra Khatik is going to run from the seat in Tikamgarh (SC).
Former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been appointed to the seat in lieu of Vidisha MP Ramakant Bhargava. Alok Sharma will represent the BJP in Bhopal. Sadhvi Pragya Singh is the one holding the position right now. Anita Nagar Singh Chauhan has been awarded the Ratlam (ST) seat, which is presently occupied by BJP MP Guman Singh Damor.
Rajasthan’s Political Reshuffle
The party announced candidates for 15 Lok Sabha seats, replacing five incumbent Members of Parliament in Rajasthan. Fresh candidates from the Churu, Bharatpur, Jalore, Udaipur, and Banswara constituencies will compete.
Tripura West’s Political Handover
The party’s MP Pratima Bhoumik is presently holding the Tripura West seat, which is being run by former chief minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb.
Manoj Tigga Succeeds John Barla as BJP’s MP in West Bengal
Manoj Tigga has taken John Barla’s seat as the Alipurduar MP in West Bengal. It is anticipated that the Lok Sabha elections would occur before May of this year. The poll dates are probably going to be announced by the Election Commission after March 13.
