There has been a new revelation in the Morbi Bridge Collapsed in Gujarat’s Morbi.The preliminary investigation report of Morbi Bridge SIT Report has come out, stating that almost half of the wires on the cables were rusted and the old suspenders were connected to the new ones, due to which the bridge collapsed in Morbi in the year 2022. Was. A total of 135 people died in this accident. The SIT had submitted this report only in December 2022. However, this report has recently been shared by the State Urban Development Department with Morbi Municipality.

Bridge fell into the river on October 30 last year

Ajanta Manufacturing Limited (Orewa Group) got the contract for operation and maintenance of the British era suspension bridge over the Machchu river. This bridge fell into the river on October 30 last year. The SIT team in its report has mentioned lapses in the repair, maintenance and operation of the bridge. The SIT team included IAS officer Rajkumar Beniwal, IPS officer Subhash Trivedi, a secretary and a chief engineer of the state road and building department and a professor of structural engineering.

The SIT said in the report that one of the two main cables of the bridge over the Machchu river, built by the then rulers in 1887, had a corrosion problem and may have been broken before the cable broke on the evening of October 30 on about half of its wires.

Main cable upstream of the river broke

According to the SIT report, the main cable upstream of the river broke, due to which the accident took place. Each cable was made of seven wires. Each had seven steel wires.

The SIT has told in its report that a total of 49 wires were joined together at seven places to make this cable. The SIT has told in its report that out of 49 wires, 22 were rusted, which indicates that those wires might have been broken before the incident. The remaining 27 wires must have been broken in the accident.

The Morbi Municipality, without the approval of the General Board, had awarded the contract for maintenance and operation of the bridge to the Oreva Group, which closed the bridge for renovation in March 2022 and reopened it on October 26 without permission.
