Kerala: It has taken 11 years to solve a mystery murder case involving the death of a woman from Kerala and her daughter. 11 years after a 23 year old woman and her daughter from Poovachal in Thiruvanthpuram went missing, it has been discovered that both of them were killed. Divya and her daughter Gauri were killed by her partner, 35 year old Maheen Kannu, who had pushed them off the sea off the Alila Thura near coast Colachel.
The Crime Branch has arrested Maheen Kannu on murder charges and his wife Ruqia for conspiracy.
Maheen did not reveal to Divya that he was married
Maheen Kanu and Divya got close when they both were working near Poovachal. However, Maheen concealed that he was married and belonged to a different religion and introduced him as Manu.
The two fell in love and started and living together and when Divya got pregnant Maheen left for the UAE and retuned only after one and a half year. It was then Divya came to know that Maheen was already married. His first wife, Ruqiya also found out about Divya,, which led to heated arguments. Ruqiya warned Maheen about ending their marriage if he did not leave Divya.

Mystery Murder case involving the death of a women and her daughter solved after 11 years
Investigation by the Police has revealed that on April 17, 2011 when Divya and her two and a half year old daughter had gone missing , shortly after they accompanied Kannu on what they were told was a trip to Vellankani, a pilgrim spot 500 km away in Tamil Nadu where the man said they will get married. Intead he took them to an isolated beach on Colachel area of Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district – about 50 KM from Thiruvanthpuram – where he drowned them and pushed their bodies into the sea.

During investigation by the police after Divya and her daughter went missing and Maheen did not cooperate and was evasive, and stated that she had gone away with her daughter on her own.
Divya and her family over the years had also raised allegation against local Police for not investigating the case effectively.
