Naxal threat looms large on Chhattisgarh, Central intelligence agencies warned CRPF

Naxal attack

Naxal attack: Maoists in Chhattisgarh issued a letter late last month threatening to assault security officers in reprisal for anti-Naxal operations. According to The Indian Express, central intelligence agencies warned the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local state police that Maoists were plotting IED strikes/ambushes against security troops in Dantewada, Sukma, and Bijapur districts.

Maoists were enquiring about the movement of security forces

The Maoists are said to have claimed in their letter that security forces were causing problems for villagers, and they also cited Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s March 25 visit to the state, when he attended the 84th CRPF Day in Jagdalpur. According to sources, security forces have made many unsuccessful attempts to apprehend Maoist commander Hidma in the last four to six months. “Inputs indicated that the Maoists were enquiring about the movement of security forces and planned to target their equipment and vehicles.” They were asking about police informers and threatening them, according to a source who cited the threat perception survey.

According to a senior source in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla wrote to the Chief Secretaries of nine Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) impacted states, including Chhattisgarh, in February, outlining the current LWE picture and suggesting a way ahead. “The letter was shared with state police,” a state police official said. “The intelligence agencies also conveyed that senior Maoist leaders of the Central Committee and Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) were recently observed preparing their strategy for the Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) 2023 and also conducting meetings with People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) cadres in Bijapur district,” another source said.
