NIA raids across 4 states in crackdown on PFI supporters

NIA: According to persons acquainted with the situation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday started conducting raids at various places around four states as part of its investigation into the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its supporters.

Information regarding people connected to PFI was the basis for the raids

Days after a crackdown on the organisation and the arrest of its 108 leaders and members, the Union government disbanded PFI and its affiliates, including Campus Front of India. Twelve places in Bihar, including one in the Urdu Bazaar in Darbhanga, two in Uttar Pradesh, and one each in Punjab and Goa, were being searched. Officials said that information regarding people connected to PFI was the basis for the raids.

NIA filed five charge sheets against PFI officials and members

Last month, the NIA filed five charge sheets against PFI officials and members. A panel affirmed the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act’s prohibition on PFI in March. The tribunal agreed with the government’s contention that even while these organizations have admirable goals on paper, they are engaging in illegal activities that threaten the integrity and sovereignty of the nation, according to its 285-page report.
