Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi announced, “Tomorrow, 6th April, on the very auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, I look forward to being among my sisters and brothers of Tamil Nadu. The new Pamban Rail Bridge will be inaugurated. I will pray at the Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple. Development works worth over Rs. 8300 crore will also be inaugurated or their foundation stones would be laid.”

This visit holds both spiritual and infrastructural significance, as the New Pamban Bridge is a key highlight. The bridge connects Rameswaram Island to the mainland and replaces the 1914-built old Pamban bridge, offering better rail connectivity, faster travel, and modern engineering marvels, including a vertical lift span that allows ships to pass beneath.
