In the wake of the conflict between Israel and Iran, India has launched a mission to rescue its citizens in the conflict zone, codenamed Operation Sindhu. Such a bold rescue operation by the Indian government reflects its aggressive stance towards the safety and security of its citizens on foreign soil, even braving all odds in a fast-changing geopolitical scenario.

A Mission of Urgency and Precision

As a detailed report in The Indian Express documented, Operation Sindhu was a special operation by the government to bring back Indian nationals, mainly students, workers, and businesspersons, to the country, especially in areas where there were perceived threats on the back of hostilities in the Middle East region. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in partnership with the Indian Air Force (IAF) has made special flights and other logistical arrangements to accommodate the number of people who are to be repatriated.

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra closely monitored the situation and ensured that reporting from the ground team remained open to the embassies and teams sent to the region.

Building on Past Successes

Operation Sindhu is the next in the list of solid evacuations carried out earlier, including Operation Ganga (Ukraine conflict) and Operation Kaveri (Sudan crisis). Such historical endeavours have made India a country that has never given up on its people – even in situations as complicated and risky as can be.

Again, Indian officials have also asked citizens in the affected regions to enrol in local embassies, not to make unnecessary travels, and to monitor them through official advisories. The fact that it involved a C-17 Globemaster and other strategic aircraft makes the mission serious.

A Showcase of India’s Global Readiness

Operation Sindhu is not merely a simple evacuation but also a projection of the increasing diplomatic, military, and humanitarian capability of India in the world arena. International observers and the media have hailed the speedy and strategic approach of India in dealing with the increasing turmoil in the Middle East.

Operation Sindhu is nonetheless continuing as the situation in the region remains unclear yet, and the country is expecting more flights and rescues in the next few days.
