Lok Sabha Election 2024: Voting will begin in seven phases on April 19 and end on June 4. With the BJP professing confidence in capturing over 400 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, the election campaign is well underway. The BJP received 37.36% of the vote in the 2019 elections, which is a record high for any party since 1989. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) received 98 seats, whereas the Indian National Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, was able to obtain 52 seats.

Total Electors Breakdown

“Total electors encompass 49.7 crore males, 47.1 crore females, and 48,000 transgender voters. Additionally, 1.8 crore first-time voters have been added to the list,” announced CEC Rajiv Kumar. According to figures provided by the Chief Election Commissioner, 47.1 crore women will vote this time around. In addition, Rajiv Kumar stated that the number of voters who have registered is 97 crore, surpassing the total number of voters on several continents. Over 10.5 lakh polling places, 1.5 crore election workers, and security personnel. Over 55 lakh EVMs and 4 lakh cars.

Surge in Eligible Voters

The number of eligible voters has increased to around 97 crore, according to the Election Commission, a 6% increase from 2019. This spike comes after a statewide Special Summary Revision 2024 procedure that saw the publication of electoral records in early February for every State and U.T.

Election Commission’s Vigilance

The EC has been hard at work getting ready for the election process over the last two months. State-by-state thorough evaluations are being conducted concurrently to guarantee election preparedness. With over 95 million voters anticipated, the total number of polling places is predicted to increase from 10.36 lakh in 2019 to 11.8 lakh in 2024.
