Parliament Monsoon Session: Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 p.m.

Parliament Monsoon Session: On Thursday morning, proceedings in Parliament kicked off to a stormy start as the opposition repeated its call for the prime minister to make a statement regarding Manipur. On Thursday, the INDIA group of the opposition’s MPs protested the government over the Manipur issue by arriving at Parliament wearing all-black attire.

While the Opposition’s noisy sloganeering caused the Lok Sabha to adjourn until 2 p.m. shortly after the day’s proceedings began, the Rajya Sabha continued notwithstanding.

After days of logjam, the opposition unsuccessfully demanded a reply from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the violence in Manipur, and on Wednesday, they introduced a no-confidence vote against the federal government in the Lok Sabha. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi made the motion, which Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla approved.

Opposition calling for quick Lok Sabha debate

Now, the Opposition is calling for a quick Lok Sabha debate on the move. The contentious Forest Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was swiftly approved by the Lower House Wednesday following a session that lasted only a little over thirty minutes. After the opposition left the chamber, the Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Third Amendment) Bill, 2022 by voice vote.

Following the development of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive by 26 opposition parties, the 2018 Monsoon Session got under way last week.
