A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the triple train accident that took place on Friday evening in Balasore district of Odisha. This petition has been filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari. He has demanded formation of an inquiry commission under the chairmanship of a retired Supreme Court judge.
The death toll in the Balasore train accident on June 2 has reached 288. More than a thousand people have been injured. Of these, more than 800 people have been admitted to hospitals. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya are in Balosaer. The Kolkata-Chennai route is being restored with proper treatment to the injured.
Commission to submit its report in two months: Petitioner’s demand
Petitioner advocate Vishal Tiwari urged that an expert commission be constituted under the chairmanship of a retired judge of the Supreme Court. In which technical members should also be included to review and suggest the railway security system. The Commission may make amendments to strengthen the Railway Safety Mechanism and submit its report to this Court. There should be a thorough check of the armor and other safety standards. It has been said in the petition that guidelines should be made to ensure rail safety and the commission should submit its report to the court in two months. In the petition, a demand has also been made to give directions to the Central Government.
This is how the triple train accident happened
In fact, the Coromandel Express going to Chennai carrying about 1500 passengers collided with a standing goods train at Bahnaga Bazar railway station in Balasore district in Odisha on Friday night. After that it got derailed. The coaches of the Coromandel fell on the side track. Then Yeshwantpur-Howrah Express came and there was a fierce collision. So far 288 people have died. More than a thousand people have been injured.
