Plane carrying 360 Indians evacuated from Sudan lands in Delhi amid chants of Bharat Mata ki Jai

Indians evacuated: A Saudi Arabian Airlines commercial plane carrying 360 Indians rescued from Sudan, landed in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.

The flight departed from Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport at 1.56 pm and reached Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 9 pm.

As the plane landed at the Delhi airport, people chanted slogans such as ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, ‘Indian Army Zindabad’, and ‘PM Narendra Modi Zindabad’.

Operation Kaveri launched

The government launched an evacuation mission called Operation Kaveri, for Indian citizens stuck in Sudan following the fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Under the evacuation mission, India is taking the evacuees to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah from where they are returning home.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar took to Twitter and said, “India welcomes back its own. Operation Kaveri brings 360 Indian Nationals to the homeland as the first flight reaches New Delhi.”

An Indian national evacuated from Sudan, said, “The Indian government supported us a lot. It is a big thing that we reached here safely as it was very dangerous. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government.”

So far, at least 534 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Sudan.

Evacuated from Port Sudan

The Indians were evacuated in two C-130J military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force from Port Sudan on Wednesday. Apart from the Sudanese authorities, the MEA and the Indian embassy in Sudan have been in regular touch with the UN, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and US among others.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan shared a video showing 360 Indians at Jeddah Airport on a flight bound for New Delhi.

“Happy to see off 360 Indians at Jeddah Airport on a flight bound for New Delhi. They will be reaching the motherland soon, reuniting with their families. Under #OperationKaveri the Government is working relentlessly to evacuate Indian nationals from Sudan & bring them home safely,” tweeted the minister.
