Rural Development Secretary Rohit Kansal stated that ₹11,121 crore had already been sanctioned for the financial year 2026-27, and the latest release of over ₹10,021 crore would further accelerate implementation of the scheme.
Officials noted that the housing target for the current year is nearly three times higher than the previous year’s target. They expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the Centre and state governments would help achieve the objective within the stipulated timeframe.
Chouhan reiterated that the vision behind PMAY-G is to ensure that no poor family in the country is forced to live in a kutcha house. Launched in 2016, the scheme aims to provide permanent housing equipped with essential amenities.
He emphasized that the programme is not limited to constructing houses but also focuses on ensuring access to roads, electricity, drinking water, LPG connections, and sanitation facilities, thereby improving the quality of life for rural families.
The Union Minister also praised several states for introducing innovative measures such as helplines, grievance redressal systems, rainwater harvesting initiatives, livelihood support through self-help groups, and mason training programmes, which have helped speed up implementation and improve outcomes under the scheme.
The latest allocation is expected to boost rural housing construction and strengthen efforts to provide safe and dignified living conditions to economically weaker sections across the country.
