Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a strong stance against the opposition's protests over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha. While the Congress launched protests, demanding an apology from Amit Shah, PM Modi countered by exposing Congress' historical actions that undermined the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar.

PM Modi Defends Dr. Ambedkar’s Legacy

In a series of tweets, PM Modi emphasised the relentless efforts of his government to uphold and honor Dr. Ambedkar’s vision. PM Modi said, "The Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!"

“It is due to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar that we are what we are!” he stated. PM Modi highlighted key initiatives such as strengthening the SC/ST Act, the Swachh Bharat Mission, and PM Awas Yojana, which have significantly benefited marginalized communities.

He also pointed out his government’s efforts to preserve the iconic landmarks associated with Dr. Ambedkar, referred to as “Panchteerth.” PM Modi noted that his government resolved the long-pending issue of land for Chaitya Bhoomi and developed sites like 26, Alipur Road in Delhi, and Dr. Ambedkar’s London residence, which were neglected by previous administrations.

PM Modi’s Scathing Criticism of Congress

Targeting Congress directly, PM Modi listed their historical “sins” against Dr. Ambedkar, including:

Election defeats: Congress ensured Dr. Ambedkar’s defeat in elections twice, with Pandit Nehru personally campaigning against him.

Bharat Ratna Delay: Dr. Ambedkar was denied the Bharat Ratna during Congress’ tenure.

Parliament Disrespect: Congress did not give Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait a place of pride in Parliament’s Central Hall for years.

PM Modi accused Congress of repeatedly attempting to erase Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions and failing to respect the SC/ST communities.

Congress Stages Protests Over Amit Shah’s Remarks on Dr. Ambedkar

On December 17, Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. Ambedkar during the Rajya Sabha debate sparked outrage among opposition leaders. On December 18, prominent Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, staged protests, demanding an apology from Amit Shah. They chanted “Jai Bhim” and showcased Dr. Ambedkar’s image during their demonstrations.

Rahul Gandhi led Congress MPs in raising slogans in Parliament premises, creating a charged atmosphere. The party criticised the BJP government, accusing them of disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar, while demanding accountability from Amit Shah.
