PM Modi Interacts With Rescue Teams Back From Turkey

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other organizations involved in rescue and relief operations under Operation Dost in earthquake-hit Turkey and Syria and appreciated their efforts.

Addressing the personnel who had returned from quake-hit Turkey, PM Modi said, “You have done great service to humanity and made India proud.”

“We consider the world as one family and see it our duty to quickly help any member in crisis,” PM Modi told the relief teams.

Relief and rescue teams have served humanity

Appreciating the efforts of the NDRF teams, he said that in the last few years, India has strengthened its identity as a self-reliant as well as a selfless country. He said that the relief and rescue teams have served humanity and made the country proud.

India was among the first few countries to send rescue teams to the affected countries within hours of the massive earthquake. Turkey was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on February 6, which also affected neighboring Syria. So far more than 45 thousand people have been killed in this, while lakhs of people have become homeless.

The PMO held a meeting on February 6 itself and soon after that rescue and relief teams were sent to Turkey and Syria under Operation Dost. In addition to relief material, India sent mobile hospitals and special rescue teams, besides about 250 military personnel, to the most affected areas in Turkey and Syria.

Addressing the rescue personnel, Modi said India is always the first to respond whenever a crisis strikes. We consider the world as one family and consider it our duty to immediately help any member in distress.

Three self-contained NDRF teams with over 150 specially trained personnel as well as a dog squad and special vehicles were also sent to Turkey. Emergency medicines, equipment and medical supplies were also sent to Syria.
