PM Modi— Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Italy on Thursday to participate in the annual G7 summit of advanced economies. The summit, scheduled to take place from June 13 to 15 at the luxury resort of Borgo Egnazia in Italy's Apulia region, will provide a platform for global leaders to discuss pressing international issues.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra highlighted that PM Modi's participation in the G7 summit offers an opportunity to build on the outcomes of last year's G20 summit hosted by India. The G7 discussions are expected to focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza, among other critical topics.
Summit Venue and Attendees
The G7 summit will be hosted at Borgo Egnazia, a renowned luxury resort in Apulia. Prominent leaders attending the summit include US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also slated to participate in a session addressing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Key Focus Areas
PM Modi will address several vital issues during the summit:
- Africa, Climate Change, and Development: The summit will commence with discussions on these significant issues, underlining their relevance to the Global South and aligning with India's development objectives.
- Middle East and Ukraine Conflict: The ongoing conflicts in these regions will dominate the agenda, with leaders seeking solutions to these complex geopolitical challenges.

Bilateral Meetings with Italian PM
In addition to the summit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This will be their second meeting since Meloni's visit to India in March 2023. Their previous meeting occurred at the COP28 Summit in Abu Dhabi in December 2023. The discussions will review the progress in bilateral ties and strategize for future collaboration.
