PM Modi speaks with Tokyo Olympics bound sportspersons

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with Indian sports personnel who are bound to Tokyo Olympics 2021 to represent the country in various sports. The Prime Minister first conversated with archers Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav who updated the PM on their stuggles as well as preparations.

PM Modi then talked to javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra who informed the prime minister about his recovery from a shoulder injury and also his experience of being part of the armed forced and his goal for the Tokyo Olympics.

Sprinter Dutee Chand also had a brief conversation with Prime Minister and spoke about the difficulties she faced while coming through the ranks.

PM Modi inquired about boxer Ashish Kumar’s health and his Covid recovery. The Prime Minister also offered heartfelt condolences to the athlete’s father who died earlier this year.

PM Modi also compared the boxer to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar who had played in world cup despite losing his father in 1999.

Meanwhile, MC Mary Kom told Prime Minister that she would be missing her kids while bein away. PM Modi called her an inspiration to many and wished her the best.

The Prime Minister then spoke with 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu who updated him about her preparations.

The first batch of India’s Olympic-bound athletes will depart for Tokyo on July 17. More than 120 athletes are bound for the games to be held in Japan’s Tokyo.
