PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Not Just On Paper, 2.4 Million Homes Finally Reached, Here’s How To Avail The Scheme, Check Eligibility?

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced reaching approximately 24 percent of the 10 million target set for FY 2026-27.

PM Surya Ghar Yojana: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced 2,396,497 residential households installed rooftop solar systems so far, reaching approximately 24 percent of the 10 million target set for FY 2026-27.

A total of 5,354,099 applications have been received as of December 3, 2025, on the national portal, and 1,917,698 rooftops have been installed throughout the country.

Shripad Yesso Naik, the Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, told Parliament that the program has targeted coverage of 3.5 million households for FY 2025-26.

Who can join PM Surya Ghar Yojana?

Any Indian citizen who owns a house with solar-ready roof and who is not a beneficiary of any previous solar subsidy and has a valid electricity connection is eligible to apply for PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Uttar Pradesh led rooftop solar installations during Q3 2025 with 335.3 MW. It was followed by Maharashtra with 321.7 MW and Gujarat with 302.1 MW, accounting for 16%, 15.5% and 14.5% of additions, respectively. The three states were followed by Rajasthan and Kerala with 166.4 MW and 138.8 MW. All these five states accounted for 60.5 percent of total installations during the quarter.

PM Surya Ghar Yojana: All You Should Know

The PM Surya Ghar Yojana provides for the availability of a collateral-free loan at a concessional interest rate from nationalized banks (of repo rate plus 50 basis points, or 6 percent per annum, with duration of 10 years).

The Indian government has also waived technical feasibility requirements and introducing auto load enhancements up to 10 kilowatt. The ministry has also included Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) or utility-led aggregation (ULA) models under the scheme.
