Prefer to die in free democracy of India than artificial China: Dalai Lama

The spiritual leader of Tibet , the Dalai Lama, criticized China for its stance and declared that he would rather die in India which is a free and democratic nation, than in an “artificial” state like China.

His Divineness At a two-day gathering hosted by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), where he met in person with 28 young peacemakers from 13 nations in Dharamsala, the Dalai Lama interacted with a group of youngsters.

Dalai Lama while explaining how and why he escaped from Tibet said, “there was a danger to my community and my own life. The situation was urgent and desperate. This is when I decided to escape and I must say, I am happier as a refugee in India. We have a long history with India and I am a humble guest of the Indian Government. “

Further stressing the need for countries to fight for democracy and equality, Dalai Lama said, “I told former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, I will live another 15-20 years, there is no question and at the time of my death, I prefer dying in India. India is surrounded by people who show love, not artificial something. If I die surrounded by Chinese officials, it would be too artificial. I prefer dying in this country with a free democracy.”

The Dalai Lama is a famous spiritual leader who is known throughout the world for his pro-peace stance. China must consider him a threat because of his opinions on the Chinese occupation of Tibet. The Dalai Lama has frequently voiced his discontent with how China conducts itself, and his remarks about not wishing to “die in China” confirm his views.

The Dalai Lama, now 87 years old, was forced to flee and seek refuge in India during the 1950s Chinese occupation of Tibet. The spiritual head of Tibet has often pushed for dialogue with China that would end in a peaceful settlement for the Tibetan issue.
