A principal in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district was arrested for allegedly raping a Class 7 student on October 5. The 31-year-old principal allegedly called the girl to school the following day for studying and sexually assaulted her inside the school premises. The girl reportedly narrated the entire incident to her cousin and mother.
This was not the first time that the principal traumitized the minor victim. He had earlier sent her obscene texts and even tried to sexually harass her, according to Bhajana Ram, station house officer (SHO), Singhana police station.
The student victim in her statement said that she had tried to report the harassment to two teachers of the school. However, they threatened her not to report it, and deleted the messages from her mobile phone.
The incident was also reported to the child helpline number on October 13, after which members of the Child Welfare Committee reached the victim’s village the next day. They counselled her and arrested Yadav.
