Rajdeep Sardesai Fired From India Today

Is Rajdeep Sardesai out of India Today? That’s the question heating up social media after a lot of speculation went viral over the weekend. It comes after his controversial PoK comment in a discussion on the news channel.

In a recent debate, Sardesai said India should consider formalising the Line of Control (LoC) as the international border. He also warned that India must not underestimate Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities. These statements sparked a major backlash online. Many slammed him for agreeing with Pakistan’s narrative and called his views “anti-national,” especially after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

Did India Today FIRE Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai For His PoK Comment?

ABP News journalist Megha Prasad recently tweeted, “A high and mighty in the media just got booted out.” She didn’t drop names, but the internet was quick to connect the dots. Many users believed she was talking about Sardesai, especially after his controversial comments on Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Reactions poured in across X (formerly Twitter). One user wrote, “If ‘Dalal’ had a face.” Another added, “Best news of the year. Rajdeep ko आजतक से निकाल दिया.”

Check out some more reactions below!

However, Sardesai has dropped a cryptic post on X, where he wrote, “BREAKING NEWS: TIGER 🐅 zinda hai! Aur Nidar hai! 😊👍.”

Credibility Under Fire Amid Political Links

This isn’t Sardesai’s first brush with controversy. In 2021, he tweeted that a protester was shot dead by police during the Republic Day tractor rally. Later, reports confirmed the man died when his tractor overturned. India Today suspended Sardesai for two weeks and cut his salary for spreading false information.

Many have also questioned Sardesai’s journalistic neutrality. Critics accuse him of going easy on opposition leaders while constantly attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. These concerns grew after his wife, journalist Sagarika Ghose, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamool Congress (a rival to the BJP).

Her political nomination reignited debate over conflict of interest. People began asking if Sardesai could truly remain unbiased while his spouse holds a seat in the Upper House for an opposition party. Since then, his critics say his tone has aligned more with that of a political commentator than a neutral journalist.

So far, India Today has remained silent. No official statement has been released. However, speculation suggests that the network may have taken an internal decision to protect its credibility.
