The Sealdah CBI Court in Kolkata has delivered its final verdict in the tragic RG Kar case. Sanjay Roy, the accused in the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor, has been sentenced to life imprisonment until death. Along with the sentence, the court imposed a ₹50,000 fine on Roy.

Compensation Ordered for Victim’s Family

The court has directed the West Bengal government to provide a compensation of ₹17 lakhs to the victim's family. This ruling comes after a meticulous investigation into the RG Kar rape and murder case, which shook the medical community and the entire state.

Evidence That Sealed Sanjay Roy’s Conviction

The crime, which occurred on the night of August 8-9, 2024, was solved through strong forensic evidence and CCTV footage. Scratch marks on Sanjay Roy’s body matched the DNA samples taken from the victim's fingernails. Hair collected from the crime scene, located in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College, also matched his DNA.

The victim, a 31-year-old junior doctor, was found raped and murdered in the hospital’s seminar room. The investigation revealed Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, as the sole accused in this heinous crime.

CBI’s Swift Action in the RG Kar Case

On the Calcutta High Court's orders, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case from the Kolkata Police. A 45-page chargesheet, backed by 11 pieces of evidence, was submitted, ensuring a strong case against Sanjay Roy.

Roy’s Claims of Innocence

Despite the overwhelming evidence, Sanjay Roy maintained his innocence, claiming he was falsely implicated. He alleged higher officers had given him instructions and even cited his Rudraksha necklace, questioning why it didn’t break during the alleged crime.
