The Congress mocked Karnataka chief minister Bommai and claimed that the BJP now has movie stars to draw crowds because no one shows up to listen to Bommai and other BJP leaders. This came as Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep on Wednesday expressed his support for the BJP in Karnataka and said he would campaign for the BJP rather than run in the elections.
K Annamalai, the leader of the Tamil Nadu BJP, posted a picture and commented on Rahul Gandhi receiving roses from Bollywood star Swara Bhasker during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“You Dear Leader was going around accepting roses from an actress who is known to support anti-India forces. Now you are rattled because nationalist voices in the entertainment industry are choosing the BJP!” Annamalai replied to Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala who on Kichcha Sudeep’s support to Bommai commented: “People, not Film Stars, will decide fate of Karnataka”.
A movie celebrity might decide for themselves who to endorse, sometimes through IT-ED, according to Surjewala. “Bankruptcy of BJP in #Karnataka is clear,” the Congress leader said.
“Why do you think I will come due to that? Do you think I am a person who will succumb to any threat or pressure? I have come here for my affection and love (for Bommai) and not pressure,” Sudeep said.
Alongwith Yash and Puneeth Rajkumar, Kichcha Sudeep was put on the income tax department’s radar in 2019. At that moment, Sudeep simply made it known that his error led to the IT raid.
The actor was questioned on the IT raids and whether any pressure led him to support Bommai. “I am here only because Bommai wants me to support a few people. However, I cannot campaign for everybody because humanly I cannot and I won’t,” the top Kannada actor said. Kichha Sudeep supporting Bommai gave the BJP a boost in star power ahead of the polls on May 10. Sudeep dismissed speculations that he would join the BJP and run for office, saying instead that he would be supporting Bommai “mama”.
