Amid communal unrest Schools, colleges in Gurugram’s Sohna to remain closed on Aug 2

Due to the communal unrest in the Sohna area of Gurugram following the outbreak of violence in the Nuh district of Haryana, all educational institutions will be closed on August 2.

According to a court decision, the communal strife in the adjoining district of Nuh has caused antisocial individuals to obstruct roadways, which could disturb the peace and tranquilly and public order in the area.

“In order to avoid any untoward incident and ensure the safety of the students, it is deemed necessary to close all Government and private educational institutions in the Sohna Sub-division of District Gurugram on 2nd August, 2023, in view of the prevailing circumstances.” the order issued by District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav read. As a result, on August 2, 2023, all schools, colleges, and coaching facilities in Sohna will be closed. Other Gurugram educational institutions will reopen tomorrow.

Crowd set fire to an eatery and vandalised other shops

On Tuesday afternoon at Badshahpur, a crowd set fire to an eatery and vandalised other shops, sparking a new incident of intergroup violence in Gurugram. In Badshahpur, the mob trashed a few stores owned by one group of people and yelled “Jai Shri Ram” in front of a mosque, according to PTI.

“Some youths were trying to create ruckus in the market and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. We reached the spot and handled the situation,” said Satish Kumar, SHO of Badshahpur police station.

According to police, the Badshahpur market was closed and the fire was put out after a fire department team arrived at the scene.

The violence that broke out on Monday following an attack on a VHP march in the neighbouring Nuh region has already claimed the lives of five people.
