Shashi Tharoor Tells Foreign Affairs Minister to ‘Cool a Little Bit’ Amid Criticism of West

Shashi Tharoor

Shashi Tharoor: Shashi Tharoor, a member of Congress, encouraged Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to “chill off a little bit” after the Union minister criticised the West for its propensity to comment on other nations’ internal affairs. “We don’t need to have such thin skin. It’s crucial, in my opinion, that we as a government handle things calmly. We do ourselves a disservice if we respond to every comment. Tharoor was reported by news agency ANI as stating, “I will strongly advise Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to cool a little bit.

MPs Tejasvi Surya and PC Mohan in ‘Meet and Greet’

In a “Meet and Greet” event with more than 500 young voters, joggers, and visitors on Sunday in Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park, MPs Tejasvi Surya and PC Mohan said, “The West thinks it has a God-given right to speak on internal problems of other countries.” “There are two causes (for why we see the West criticising India). First, the West has a horrible habit of criticising other people. They seem to believe that it is some sort of divine prerogative. They will only be able to learn by experience that if they continue to act in this way, other people will start making comments as well, and they won’t enjoy it when it does. And I observe it taking place.”

Rahul Gandhi’s exclusion from the House of Representatives

“The second aspect of the truth is that by engaging in our discussions, you are inviting commentary on you. The temptation to comment then grows stronger and stronger. Also, we must cease lavishly inviting the world while claiming that there are issues in India. Hence, if someone from here asks, “Why are you standing by and saying nothing?” they will undoubtedly comment. They and we both contribute to a portion of the issue. And I believe both require repair,” he continued. The minister was responding to a query regarding comments made by Germany and the US regarding Rahul Gandhi’s exclusion from the House of Representatives after his conviction in a criminal defamation case in 2019.
