Shinzo Abe, Ex-Japan PM shot in chest, showing no vital signs. Attacker arrested

Shinzo Abe, a former Japanese prime minister, was killed in Nara on Friday while running for office, according to Reuters, citing NHK. According to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the 67-year-old world leader was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. The police have detained a suspect.

According to reports, after being brought to the hospital after the incident, Abe is reportedly not breathing. Public broadcaster NHK reported that the former prime minister Abe “appears to be in a state of cardio-respiratory arrest,” a term used in Japan before a suspected death can be certified by a physician.

Officials from the police and fire departments who were called by AFP did not immediately confirm the incident. The police have detained the attacker of the former prime minister, a man wearing a grey shirt. With a gun that the Japan Police have confiscated, the accused shot Abe. Around 11:30 am, when the attack took place, the fire brigade verified that the leader had no signs of life.

In 2020, Abe resigned from his position because to health concerns. Abe apologised to the Japanese people for not serving out the remainder of his term in office and stated in his resignation address that he did not want his sickness to interfere with his ability to make decisions.

The accused entered from behind, according to the eyewitness, while the former prime minister was giving his stump speech. “The first shot made a toy-like sound. Despite the loud bang, he didn’t collapse. The flare and smoke from the second shot were more obvious, according to the eyewitness, who was cited.

Mr. Shinzo has been airlifted for treatment. He is critical and is reported to have shown signs of cardiac arrest.
