Shradh 2023: Pitru Paksha commenced on the full moon day of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha, which was September 29th, and it is scheduled to conclude on Ashwin’s Amavasya date, which falls on October 14th. Dwadashi Shradh is observed for departed relatives who passed away on the Dwadashi date.

Dwadashi Shradh Shubh Muhurat

This year, Dwadashi Tithi will begin on October 10, 2023, at 03:08 PM and end on October 11 at 05:37 PM. Consequently, Dwadashi Shraddha will be observed on October 11. The auspicious time for performing the Shradh will be as follows:

• Kutup Muhurta – 11:44 am to 12:31 am
• Rohin Muhurta – 12:31 pm to 01:17 pm
• Afternoon time – 01:17 pm to 03:37 pm

Dwadashi Shradh Pooja Vidhi

During Dwadashi Shradh of Pitru Paksha, it is customary to perform several rituals to honor and satisfy the souls of our ancestors. Here are some of the rituals and practices you can follow:

1. Light a sesame oil lamp and burn fragrant incense in remembrance of your ancestors.
2. Prepare a mixture of sugar candy and sesame seeds in water and offer it as a symbolic offering to your ancestors.
3. Offer water with devotion and in the prescribed manner as a gesture of respect to your forebears.
4. Practicing acts of charity on this day holds special significance. You can donate food and money to those in need as an act of goodwill and service.
5. Recite the tenth chapter of the Bhagwat Geeta as a spiritual offering to your ancestors. This recitation is believed to bring blessings from your forefathers.
6. After completing the Shraddha rituals, it is customary to feed food to ten Brahmins. If you are unable to do this, you can provide a meal to a single Brahmin instead.
7. Additionally, on this day, it is common to provide food to crows, cows, dogs, and ants, symbolizing the feeding of all living beings.

These practices are performed to pay homage to your ancestors and seek their blessings and well-being during Pitru Paksha.
