Siddaramaiah to take oath as Karnataka Chief Minister today with DKS as his deputy; 8 minister to be sworn in too

Karnataka Chief Minister: A week after the Congress registered a resounding victory in Karnataka securing 135 seats in the 224-seat Assembly, chief minister-designate Siddaramaiah, deputy CM D K Shivakumar and 8 ministers will take oath at 12:30 pm in Bengaluru today.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has invited several like-minded Opposition parties to the event. The Karnataka Congress has also extended invitations to former Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Siddda has experience, DKS is mastermind

After days of hectic parleys, Congress named 75-year old Siddaramaiah as the chief minister and Shivakumar his deputy. Siddaramaiah is a backwards-class leader with over five decades of political experience. On the other side, KPCC president DK Shivakumar comes from the Vokkaliga community and is considered the mastermind behind Congress victory in the state.

According to latest reports, 8 ministers could also take oath today. Some prominent names are former Karnataka Congress chief and ex-deputy chief minister G Parameshwara, Lingayat leader M B Patil, senior Congressman and former minister KJ George, said sources.

Priyank Kharge, Roopa Shashidhar, Tanveer Sait in cabinet

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s son Priyank Kharge, Roopa Shashidhar, the daughter of former Union minister K H Muniyappa, Karnataka Congress working president Eshwara Khandre, former minister Tanveer Sait, senior leader Krishna Byre Gowda and Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council B K Hariprasad may also take oath today as ministers, sources said.

The oath-taking of the Congress government in Karnataka may give a stage for opposition unity. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin, and several other leaders from the non-BJP bloc are expected tp attend the ceremony.

The new cabinet will be sworn-in by governor Thawarchand Gehlot. Later in the evening it is scheduled to meet to discuss the party’s five poll guarantees that resonated with voters, particularly women, and played a key role in the party’s victory.
