Relief predicted for the hills

The Western Disturbance, which was present, closely impacted the hills of North India and encountered unfavourable weather conditions. Places like Gulmarg recorded an impressive 86mm of rain in just two days, nearly matching its monthly average. Qazigund and Srinagar also experienced significant rainfall, with 56mm and 45mm respectively.

Life has been disrupted by recent snowfall in several areas of Himachal Pradesh as 476 roads, including three national highways, remain closed. Additionally, the operation of 697 electricity and 20 water supply stations has been affected.

This spell of rain and snow has brought much-needed relief to the region after a prolonged dry spell in January. The rains and snowfall have not only replenished the water levels in rivers, lakes, and dams but have also replenished the soil moisture, which is crucial for agriculture and farming in the region. The snowfall has also boosted the local tourism industry, as ski resorts and other winter sports destinations have seen an increase in visitors.

However, residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding travel to high-altitude areas, keeping warm, and staying updated on the latest weather conditions.

In conclusion, the spell of rain and snow has brought much-needed relief and joy to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Despite the challenges posed by inclement weather, the region is optimistic about the future and is looking forward to a bright and prosperous year ahead.
