Manipur Violence: In Manipur districts that have experienced nonstop violence for the past week, life is finally getting back to normal. Conflicts between Meiteis and tribals over the former's quest for membership in the Scheduled Tribe category led to racial unrest in the northeastern state. The case has now made it to the Supreme Court, which will hear several arguments on the Manipur situation on Monday.
The bench will hear three petitions
G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for the Development of the North Eastern Region, stated that the government was willing to negotiate with the Manipur fighting parties and find a solution to their problems. On Monday, a Supreme Court panel comprised of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices PS Narashima, and JB Pardiwala would hear several arguments on the situation in Manipur. The bench will hear three petitions, including one from a BJP MLA opposing the high court's decision to grant the Meitei people Scheduled Tribe status and another from a tribal organisation requesting a SIT investigation into the recent unrest in Manipur.

Shashi Tharoor lashed out at BJP
Since fighting between the Meitei community and the local tribes in Manipur started, 23,000 individuals have been rescued and sent to military camps. To maintain control, Army and Assam Rifles personnel were stationed in the affected districts. Shashi Tharoor, a senior member of the Congress, attacked the BJP and demanded that President's rule be imposed in Manipur. He Tweeted, "As the Manipur violence persists, all right-thinking Indians must ask themselves what happened to the much-vaunted good governance we had been promised. The voters of Manipur are feeling grossly betrayed just a year after putting the BJP in power in their state. It’s time for President’s Rule; the state Govt is just not up to the job they were elected to do."
