Supreme Court to resume physical hearing again from next week

The Supreme Court is likely to start again physical hearings from next week onwards. The physical hearings may resume in 3 courts on a trial basis, the seven-judge committee has decided.

The apex court, since March 25, has been holding hearings through video conferencing due to a nationwide lockdown and even after the restrictions were relaxed, it has decided to continue with the practice.

The seven-judge Committee of Justices Ramana, Arun MishraRF NarimanUU Lalit, AM KhanwilkarDY Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao met on July 24 with the President of SCBA, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, Chairman of the BCI, Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra and President of SCAORA, Shivaji Jadhav.

Physical courts, when reopened, would operate in addition to the virtual hearings that are currently taking place, it is clarified. Lawyers and litigants would have the option of joining the hearings through video conferencing.
