Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to re-include Chennai as an embarkation point for Haj pilgrims. Earlier Haj Committee has earlier removed Chennai from the list of cities embarking points.
In the letter to Prime Minister, the Tamil Nadu CM said that nearly 4,500 Haj pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Island used in Chennai as the embarkation in 2019.
Stalin also pointed out that current Haj embarkation point for pilgrims for Tamil Nafu was Kerala's Kochi that is more than 700 kms away from Chennai.
He requested the officials concerned be directed to include Chennai again to avoid inconvenience for the Haj pilgrims.
