The Tamil Nadu government has extended the ongoing lockdown in the state till 6 pm on July 5. However, in the capital Chennai and surrounding districts, where there has been a decrease in the cases of infection, many exemptions have been given. Apart from Chennai, all private companies in Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Thiruvalluvar districts can operate with 100% employees. The government has divided the districts into three categories according to the cases of infection, on the basis of which exemption has been announced.
According to the report of Times of India, these four districts fall in Category-3. Shopping complexes and malls in these districts will open from 9 am to 7 pm with 50 percent capacity. Along with this, jewelry stores, textile showrooms, churches, temples and mosques can also be opened. However, people will not be allowed to worship or other ceremonies at religious places. Theaters and places of entertainment are also not allowed to open in these districts. Sports training academy and outdoor events have been allowed between 6 am and 9 pm without spectators.
23 districts come under Category-2. Public buses will be able to run with 50 percent capacity in these districts. Shops of utensils, tailors, photo/video, clothing, mobile, computer, electronic goods will open from 9 am to 7 pm. At the same time, 11 districts come under Category-1, where the additional exemption has been increased due to less cases. All government departments related to essential services will be able to work with 100 percent and other departments with 50 percent capacity.
The number of active cases of corona in Tamil Nadu is 49,845. There were 6,162 new cases in the state on Thursday, after which the total number of infection cases in the state reached 24.49 lakh. Of these, 23.67 lakh people have been cured. So far 31,901 people have died due to Covid-19 in the state. In which 8,131 people lost their lives only in Chennai.
