Tamil Nadu: Parents bury newborn girl in Madurai, now on run

In a horrifying case of female infanticide, Madurai District Police are in search of a couple whose newborn baby died two days back and was buried near Sedapatti.

M. Kausalya, wife of O. Muthupandi, delivered a girl baby at the primary health centre at Sedapatti on December 21, the Police said. However, the baby is said to have died on Sunday and was buried near their house.

The child was reportedly born healthy and when nurse went on to check the mother and child on December 26, the baby was missing. The couple then informed the nurse that baby had died and was buried in front of the house. The nurse then alerted the police.

To find out the truth in the matter, the police may exhume the body and conduct a postmortem to ascertain the cause of death. A case has been registered under Section 318 of the IPC on charges of secretly burying the body of a child and further investigation is on.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a search for the couple.
