HAL Chairman CB Ananthkrishnan has revealed that Argentina and Egypt are in talks with India for a possible supply of indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas.

He also disclosed that Argentina needs 15 fighter jets and that Egypt has expressed interest in 20 Tejas Aircraft. HAL has additionally volunteered to assist the Egyptian Air Force in establishing a local aerospace system. The US, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines are the other nations that have expressed interest in domestically produced Tejas aircraft.
The chairman of HAL stated that India would like to assist Egypt in developing its aerospace ecosystem and that Egypt is also interested in having an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility.
CB Ananthakrishnan said,
”While talks are on with the Argentine authorities, we have submitted our proposal to Egypt, which is also interested in setting up a local aerospace ecosystem. We will help facilitate that. Two teams from the Argentine Air Force have visited HAL and flown the LCA”

People familiar with the matter said that Egyptian side has conveyed its keenness on acquiring the Indian platforms during delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. In last few years, the overall ties between India and Egypt has been on an upswing.
India’s pride – Tejas Light Combat Aircraft
The defence ministry and HAL agreed on a Rs 48,000 crore purchase agreement in February 2021 for 83 Tejas light combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force.
