‘The Wire’ Editors’ Homes Searched After Complaint By BJP’s Amit Malviya

According to sources, the Delhi Police searched the houses of two editors of the news website “The Wire” this evening in response to a complaint made by the BJP’s Amit Malviya.

The founding editors of The Wire, Siddharth Varadarajan and MK Venu, had their residences examined and their equipment inspected, according to sources. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT Cell, filed a complaint against them, leading to charges of cheating and forgery being brought against them. The Wire “fabricated papers to smear and damage” his reputation, according to the complaint.

The Wire recently withdrew a series of investigative stories that claimed that Mr. Malviya had been granted special privileges by Meta, the parent corporation of social media giants WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram which he could use to take down posts that he thought were critical of the BJP.

The Wire responded to the stories “after conducting an internal review of the technical source material used, with the help of external experts”.

In a statement, The Wire stated that it was conducting a comprehensive editorial review of the internal editorial processes “which resulted in the publication of these stories to identify and plug any shortcomings”.

The Wire, in a statement, said it had been given “fraudulent” information. “Whether the person who brought all the material to The Wire deceived us at anyone else’s behest or acted on his own is a matter that will be subjected to judicial process in due course. The malintent to discredit The Wire is obvious,” the statement said.
