1.Naga armed group and the government of Manipur sign a peace accord

The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), a Naga armed organisation with Manipur as its base, and the governments of the Union and Manipur have agreed to cease operations.The banned organisation has been calling for a separate State for the Zeliangrong Naga people for ten years. The armed organisation has claimed in previous comments that they are devotees of Manipur freedom hero Rani Gaidinliu, who spent 14 years in a British prison.

2. Union Health Minister Mandaviya reviews the COVID-19 mock drill while at Safdarjung Hospital

On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya examined the Covid reaction fake drill at the locally owned Safdarjung Hospital to assess its readiness to handle any rise in the number of coronavirus infections. The Center has instructed States and Union Territories to hold practise drills at all the designated COVID-19 hospitals as a precaution due to an increase in COVID-19 patients in various nations.

3. Parliamentary Committee states that creating a National Tourism Policy alone is insufficient; a Tourism Council is required

According to a Parliamentary committee, creating a National Tourist Policy alone will not be sufficient to advance the tourism industry in the nation. The establishment of a National Tourism Council, along the lines of the GST council, has been proposed by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture in order to expedite recommendations to the federal and state governments on a variety of issues affecting the tourism industry and its stakeholders.

4. Centre yet to make its stand clear on Ram Setu petition

In spite of a protracted legal battle brought by former Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy to have the Ram Setu recognised as a national historic monument, the government stated in Parliament that satellite imagery cannot provide “direct information” about the origin and age of the structure in the Ram Setu region. The Union government has not submitted an affidavit outlining its position on Mr. Swamy’s argument, which has caused the hearing on this petition to be postponed numerous times.

5. Plan reveals Tesla would operate with reduced output in Shanghai in January

According to an internal timetable seen by Reuters, Tesla intends to run a limited production schedule at its Shanghai plant in January, continuing the decreased output it started this month into next year.As per the timetable obtained by Reuters, Tesla would produce electric vehicles for 17 days in January, from Jan. 3 to Jan. 19, and then suspend production for a longer break for the Chinese New Year from Jan. 20 to Jan. 31. In its output forecast, Tesla did not give an explanation for the production slowdown. It was also unclear whether production at the factory would continue while the Model 3 and Model Y manufacturing lines were shut down. For the Chinese New Year, Tesla has not made it a standard habit to shut down for a prolonged amount of time.

6. Russia forbids oil shipments to countries that have a $60 per barrel price cap

On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that forbids the supply of crude oil and oil products beginning on February 1 for a period of five months to countries who adhere to the restriction. This was Russia’s long-awaited reaction to a Western pricing cap. In response to Moscow’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, the Group of Seven major nations, the European Union, and Australia agreed this month to a $60 per barrel price restriction on Russian seaborne crude oil, effective as of December 5.

8. Rohit Sharma will serve as captain again in ODIs, while Hardik Pandya will captain the T20Is against Sri Lanka

The BCCI confirmed late on Tuesday night that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will captain the Indian cricket team in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, beginning on January 3 in Mumbai. The T20I team does not include KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, or Rohit Sharma. Starting on January 10, Rohit will return to captain Team India in the ODI series against the same opponents. In the T20I series, Suryakumar Yadav will serve as the team’s vice-captain; in the ODI series, Hardik will take Rohit’s place.
