The Kanwar Yatra 2025, which started with a lively spirit, has already encompassed thousands of Shiva devotees (the Kanwariyas) all over northern India. The annual pilgrimage involves devotees drinking holy water in the Ganges River and then walking to their nearest Shiva temples, especially during the month of Shravan.
Although this devotional movement seeks to create harmony and trust, the movement increases pressure on civic infrastructure, the biggest area of which is the urban corridors of Delhi-NCR. The traffic restrictions implemented by the Delhi Police across the highways and the arterial roads have been put in effect till July 23 in the hope of heavy footfall and large-scale movement of Kanwariyas.
Traffic Restrictions and Diversions Across Delhi-NCR
Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory with all the details of road closures, route diversions, and alternate routes to ensure the safety of people and control the Kanwar Yatra crowd. According to a Hindustan Times report, long trucks are being called in from major entry points, especially the GT Karnal Road, NH-58, NH-24, and Delhi-Meerut Motorway stretches.
Major arteries such as the Ring Road, the Outer Ring Road, and the Ghaziabad-Delhi border can be affected by the jam. Emergency and essential services are being transported using green corridors, and other commercial and non-essential vehicles are encouraged to use other corridors.
Public Advisory and Commuter Tips
It is highly recommended that commuters make the arrangements for their travel in advance, which is especially expected during peak Yatra hours, early morning, and late evening. Individuals employed in NCR locations, such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, ought to access live updates using the social media accounts of Delhi Traffic Police and other legitimate traffic applications.
Pedestrians and other cyclists are required to exercise great caution in the areas of Yatra, and residents are advised to treat the Kanwariyas in a cordial manner and with civic sensibilities in place.
Delhi Police also seeks the help of the citizens in the process of ensuring that Yatra is safe, peaceful, and spiritually enriching.
