The state has been devastated by the floods, which have also badly damaged local businesses run by residents who rely on tourists to make a living. The stores near Rambi on the NH-10 in Kalimpong, which connects Sikkim with the district, are having difficulties because there aren’t enough consumers. Swapna Gupta, shopkeeper told ANI that, “The situation is bad right now. Our livelihood is dependent upon the tourists that come here but right now, there are no tourists. But more than our livelihood we are worried for those who are trapped because of flashfloods, we hope they’re rescued.”
