Uddhav Thackeray approaches Supreme Court

Uddhav Thackeray has approached Supreme Court after EC handed over Shiv Sena name and symbol to Eknath Shinde. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi shared the matter with a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud for an early listing of the Thackeray-led Sena faction’s request. However, CJI refused to pass any order stating “the rule applies equally to all, whether left, right or centre. Come tomorrow through proper process.”

As immediate relief, the Sena (UBT) plans to get a stay on the ECI order by linking it with the petition before the Supreme Court regarding the disqualification of Shinde and 15 other rebel MLAs.

‘Bow and arrow’ poll symbol to Eknath Shinde

The election commission recognised Shinde as the real Shiv Sena and honoured him with party’s “bow and arrow” poll symbol. This, for obvious reasons, did not fo well with Uddhav Thackeray whose father Bal Thackeray had founded he party in 1966.

Shinde had set up a rebellion camp in June last year with 40 Sena MLAs with the help of  opposition party BJP which triggered the ouster of Thackeray from CM’s post.
