Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan dies at 74

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ram Vilas Paswan, who was suffering from mulitple diseases, has passed away. He was 74.

The news of his demise was shared by his son Chirag Paswan via a tweet on Thursday evening.

"Papa… Now you are not in this world but I know you are always with me wherever you are," Chirag Paswan tweeted.

Paswan will be always be remembered as one of the most notable Dailt leaders of the country. In his political career spanning over five decades, he has served as minister in cabinets of five former Prime Ministers.

Informing about his father's health, LJP chief Chirag Paswan had last week said: "For the last many days dad is getting treated in a hospital. Due to some sudden developments on Saturday evening, an operation of his heart had to be conducted in the late night. If the need arises, then possibly after a few weeks another operation might be conducted. Thanks to all for standing by me and my family in this hour of struggle."

Earlier, talking about his health, Paswan had said that he finally got admitted to a hospital after his son insisted. Expressing confidence in Chirag, he had also mentioned that he would support all the political decisions that his son makes as a leader for upcoming Bihar elections.

According to several reports, Paswan underwent heart surgery last week.

As soon as the news of his passing away surfaced, leaders from the political spectrum paid their condolences for the lost soul.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paying tribute to the late leader, in a tweet wrote: "Working together, shoulder to shoulder with Paswan Ji has been an incredible experience. His interventions during Cabinet Meetings were insightful. From political wisdom, statesmanship to governance issues, he was brilliant. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti."

Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Director General of Bihar Police were among others to mourn the LJP leader's demise.
